| The Blind Opticz stumble in front of us, having
up to this point hovered under the reach of our radar screen.
And they bash their presence in our heads with clever braggadocio,
stating on "Every
Time" that "if you claim to be the hardest,
I focus my ment' on being a real hip hop artist". Headrush
is also having the competition 'switch to plan b', while he
claims to "drink a glass of nitroglycerine and blow up
the spot when I'm pissing". At the same time A-Ron remarks
that "real emcees can hang, wack emcees will get hung",
while the beat by MUDD leans a tad bit toward the keyboardy
side. He himself steps up to the mic on "Egomaniac".
The message doesn't change, but the beat gets better with a
funky horn sample and a rolling drum. The scratches by DJ Ragz
add to the completeness, with the whole sounding rather party
friendly. |
| Headrush turns to "Bug
Science", making this a biology class. Yip, not
just superficially, but he really gets into it. Well, before
he turns to using everything just taught to adapt it to a little
reflection on the mammal world. As the concept is upheld throughout
the track, making this incredible, proofing that what you learn
in school can be of use. The MUDD beat adds another extra sample
to the second chorus, making this even doper. After this Head'
solo track, A-Ron steps up to do "True
Beauty", a love poem, uttering all the emotions
and feelings in eloquence over a guitary and perfectly fitting
beat. |

| With an interesting sample choice
on "The
Crew", the eyebrow will be raised.
But the brow drags along the head for the first
up, to then nod down movement. The topic turns to
braggadocio again, while equal rhyme time is spent
on getting the crowd moving. This is a nice inbetween,
before "Atmosphere"
gets more showing and proving again, flexing the
lyrical muscle over the most complex and possibly
best MUDD beat. This science fiction wordy adds
to the versatility of these cats, making them appear
as well rounded wordsmiths. Who are also strong
due to their unforced delivery, that have us even
forgive little glitches like "if you want static,
I'm more complicated than mathematics to a dyslexic",
as dyslexia is when you have trouble in reading
and spelling. |
| Finally there's "Illuminate",
where everything comes together too, with the beat
being solid, the words open with the truth: "it's
a bad decision to grab the mic without insight",
to then continue to do more bragging and boasting.
Hence in total, this record does not reinvent the
wheel. It's no rubber tire in the world of wood
wheels either. But this wood wheel circle is just
a little rounder than the mass production, making
this a smooth ride into the sun. |
