The rose of Sharon
makes you happy, nutmeg addicted and the scent of flowers
can only be smelled by women. Yip. In the mean time,
the Blumentöpfe (flower pots), use said word as their
band name. However, you are more likely to find the
musicians to be entertaining than the actual thing bearing
the same name. Like when was the last time you wanted
to spend an hour with a pot? Exactly. However, the five
cats are back, meaning that Roger, Heinemann, Kung Shu,
Holunder and DJ Sepalot, grew 19 plants to show to us,
with the whole thing getting labeled "Eins A".
|
|
And so we start with
the "Intro", that
is a jazzy little something, and it has us reminisce
of drinking Gin Tonic in a lounge. However, this polished
start up is quickly replaced by "T.O.P.F.",
as here we are getting some of those good old 'yo, am
I not quite a nifty feller' rhymes. Meaning we are getting
punchlines like "bleiben unsere Texte so herausragend
wie Nasen" [our lyrics stand out like noses] or "die
meisten stehen für gar nichts, ihnen fehlt nur das Sitzfleisch"
[most stand for nothing, they just lack the ability
to sit still]. That's all pretty good and gets the matching
beat. "Medizin"
is then analyzing your bad qualities, and we are laughing
whole hearted and full malicious joy about this loser,
that has nothing in common with us. Well,.... Anyways,
the Töpfe intent do play drug store keeper, but the
decor of the store, meaning the beat, is not really
to our complete liking. Afterwards, there's the title
track "Eins A",
that is progressing interestingly, as the beat has a
couple of wholes, making this constantly stop and going
again.

|
Holunder then tries
to find the microphone in the fog of smoke on "Nur
dass Ihr wisst", where he expresses, that
smoking pot and hip hop should not always be mentioned
in the same breath. Hence he advises his colleagues:
"warum haltet ihr's mit dem Kiffen nicht wie mit dem
Wixen? Macht ja auch fast jeder, aber kaum einer rappt
davon". [why don't you keep it with smoking weed the
way you keep it wanking: almost everyone is doing it
too, but you rarely rhyme about it]. However, finally
Holunder concludes "doch alles was ich durchzieh' ist
mein Ding, und Emcees durch den Kakao" [that's a wordplay
that can't be translated]. Next there's "Die
Jungs aus dem Reihenhaus", where the emcees
practice understatements. Lyrically this is pretty interesting,
as we are learning more about the artists. The beat
on the other hand is monotonous, what means it's rather
boring. And while many people fail doing a worthwhile
"Interlude", the
Töpfe are growing with the challenge, as they are asking
the questions: 'what's worse, this or that?'. And there
are a couple of real nice rhymes featured on here. The
album continues musically satisfying with "Flirtaholics"
and "Purer Stoff",
with both borrowing elements from jazz. The first track
is also featuring very funny rhymes, what makes the
song one of the best on the album.
|
|
Continuing on we get
"Neben dem Ton",
where a guitar is keeping this crisp, and the lyrics
make this a manifest of alternatives. And about halfway
through the track, things change and get even better.
And once again we can add a cut to the list of best
songs of the album. "Warten"
[to wait] is reminding us where we are actually doing
that: to wait. The voices are unnecessarily altered,
but the music is making a comfortable leap, about ten
years back in time. More ironic is "Blues",
that's like the anti-thesis to "Medizin", as now we
hear about someone that can't do wrong, who has everything,
but that still isn't content with himself. More characters
are being analyzed on "Ich
bin so", where the main person is being described
on the level of 'I'm so hip hop, that...'. But don't
forget to hear between the lines, but at the same time
to enjoy rhymes like "ich bin so heiss wenn ich rappe,
bei mir fall'n die Heizkosten weg" [I'm so hot when
I rhyme, I don't have any heating costs].

|
Kung Shu is handed
a solo track with "Shu's Quiz".
Here he is having us do a quiz, that isn't too hard
to solve though. And the piano is making this sound
very comfortable. There's some crackling at the beginning
of "Schönen Gruss",
that is combined with more piano sounds, and everything
together is resulting in a good beat. This track is
featuring a truckload of punchlines, just about one
every line. So this is very, very good. Part two of
the cut is featuring more critical, however also more
stereotypical rhymes, and in part three we are treated
to more creative disses. The Persuaders are opening
up "Liebe & Hass",
that is giving us a list of things the Töpfe love, or
hate. Of course always with a sarcastic undertone. The
beat of "R'n'B"
is once more really original and good, while in contrast
the one chosen for "Ihr kriegt
uns nicht still" is not. But wait, we shouldn't
forget to mention that "R'n'B"
does some Las Vegas quality voice impersonations of
other German rappers. Dope. And well, finally, there's
only "Danke" left,
that's pretty much an elaboration on the sleeve notes
thank youse.
|
|
And so we shall now
help to wrap things up. But we will not bother too much
when it comes to some of the beats. Also in today's
time of groomed flows, some of the ways the cats rhyme
sound old school. However, if you take a look at the
actual content, it will be one of those things that
we will carefully wrap up, as the content is ill and
hence the best part of the album, it giving us wordplay,
humor, punchlines and honest opinions. So it's fair
to say that the lyrical pots are growing the most beautiful
plants.
