117H

How does a rapper/producer from Atlanta hook up with an MC from Mass? Duh, over the internet of course. Because Hype-One from Mass had skillz but no tracks to put them on he turned to the internet and connected to A-Bomb to form Bomb and Hype. Now they got a 12-track album out called "117H" for all the eager heads waiting for some new ish. So let's see if this hype is the bomb…

Ok, it's not like their crew name gives a good first impression… Bomb and Hype? But let's get to the music. Straight up the MC's are both above your average rapper and the flow is definitely on the beat… but the beats! Most of them don't advance far from synthesizer-piano-keyboard effects. Therefore the only tracks that sound decent (or good) to the listener's ears are the ones that sound like some real samples were used. For example "Ya Understand" which uses a nostalgic tune and has lyrics about the daily struggles, "The Time Is Coming" uses a well-known sample that the Dilated Peoples just used recently, "Till The Next" has a pretty catchy melody and "Dead of Winter" also has a decent beat.

If all the songs were in this direction it would be all pretty good but obviously this isn't the case cause the other tracks just lack some basic quality. From cheapo sounding keyboard effects to (bad) Swizz Beatz style drums everything wack gets served. And the worst song lyrically has got to be "All My" which basically has the MC's screaming 'all my niggas' for over three minutes.

So if all the beats were like the ones described and the lyrics would stay away from the style of the last mentioned track everything would be all right…. Emphasis on would be.
