| Edot does not need to fire the turbo booster,
because as a protege of Mr Complex he enjoys a head start before
the competition. A quick listen to this "Thirsty"
EP then makes it clear that E, first of all, doesn't sound like
Complex, and second of all, has the skills to stay ahead of
the field. With the name of this EP being as much about his
own thirst, that's just like hunger, as well as the thirst that
lingers on the listeners stomach once having enjoyed to gulp
this down and only getting that much. |
| Dot's whereabouts are rather detoured, as he
comes to us via Canada and Las Vegas, where he worked with Kool
DJ EQ (of Industry Records fame), who on here handles the cuts
on "Jarvis". So
with that cat amongst your friends, you know he will make sure
that your beats are straight, or he'll throw some left over
All-you-can-eat buffet vouchers at you. And E is blessed with
nothing but the Ben & Jerry, giving his tracks flavor like
an E number is supposed to do. And if not that, then to preserve
the quality. Again something E manages with ease. |
| So after the "Intro"
we get the still introductionary "Mixtapes
(Radio)". E enjoys to flow over a Darp Malone
beat, without the immediate need and desire to heal the world.
Instead he chit chats with much ease and with the timing of
a veteran. Heck, he simply sounds good. Also because he makes
it seem so simple to sound this comfortable behind the mic.
On "Jarvis" he
then gets more into spitting, while the beat by Chris Jarvis
claps along carelessly. This is an immediate good time song,
with E combining his braggadocios rhyming with the meaningful
sentence here and there. |

| The organ on "Shine
Time" is combined with a westcoast
synth sound and Complex grabs the mic for a couple
of lines. On here, as on every other song, E is
very much not the most complicated emcee, what in
his case however is another one of his qualities.
Here he demands his fifteen minutes, mixing this
with words on the trouble coming up. On "Conception"
we are finally treated to a weak beat (by The Labrynth),
what makes E come across more human like, with him
obviously not immune to wrongful beat choice. Lyrically
things are all about "Conception" when
Loer Velocity of the Writers Guild joins E in thinking
about his own existence and about what makes existence. |
| What then takes us to "Mixtapes
(Phatiszimo Mix)", where the lyrics
stay the same, but the beat gets more bouncy. And
after all these few songs, your thirst is definitely
not stilled. And the repeat button only hints at
more, instead of offering the demanded bigger bottle. |
