German hip hop is blowing
up. At least as much as your belly after the Christmas
feast. From the North (like Hamburg / Berlin) to the
South (like München) to the in between (like Stuttgart),
there is hip hop all over the place. And while many
of the main acts out there rhyme in their German mother
tongue (like Massive Töne, Stieber Twinz, Eins Zwo,
Blumentopf and so many more), there are some that like
to keep it English. Especially if one is a transplant
from Great Britain. And that's what KC is. And you can
hear that in his voice and 'accent', just like you hear
it when Roots Manuva rhymes.
|
|
But you can't compare
these two guys. Although both like their music rough,
this is not as dark and echoed as the Manuva stuff.
Strongly taking the middle ground of what's poppin'
in the 'magazine underground' and 'elite underground'
of NY, the beats range from cinematic ("Rookee
Of The Year" produced by C.L.A.S. or "Betta
Betta" produced by DJ Desue), to really dope
("Notts Killaz"
produced by DJ Desue), to club ready ("Got
That Thang" produced by DJ Desue or the Timbaland-ish
"Psycosexualevolution"
produced by C.L.A.S.), to dramatic ("Immediate
Affairs" produced by Sleepwalker or "Horry"
produced by C.L.A.S.), to summer-vibe-ish ("Mega
Skunk" or "Buffalo
Soldier" both produced by DJ Desue). This
gives the album a wide range of different feels. And
with no beat really being wack, all actually being really
solid if not dope, this raises above so many major backed
worldwide mega hit records.
|
|
On the mic, KC keeps
it varied with several guestspots: he hands the mic
back and forth on "Mega Skunk"
with Boogieknight to do a feelgood song, claiming he's
"unusual not illusional". Things get bilingual on "Nobody
Understands We", when Afrob kicks his rhymes in German.
Sir Larr Hussian, Ilecon, Dean Dawson, Black Kappa,
Mystic Dan and Pure God Manifested show up as well,
giving love to this KMC member. Lyrically that's often
proud bragging and boasting, but do listen to "Buffalo
Soldier", "Ain't Nothing Changed", as
well as the spiritual "Prepare For The Worst".
|
|
Concluding: all of that
is a good mixture to make a good album. And to top things
up, KC even has a DJ track on it, the "Rocco Perez Triple
X Stizza", where DJ Perez cuts, and chops and scratches
to give the album an extra level.
