Die Hohe Kunst Der Tiefen Schläge

Quasimodo and Textor are kids of the old school of hip hop. You can hear that from the first drum kick to the last tongue twister. Right off the bat, they come extra phat with the "Intro". The beat kicks in so hard, you need to hold the loudspeakers down. Part of what's so great about the beats, that they were recorded with an old school aesthetic, without sounding old or like rip offs. And yes, the Kinderzimmer guys go through lots of samples, and we can only thank the hip hop God, that in Europe the lawyermania isn't as prevalent as in the States, and that's why none of them knocks at these guy's door, to get some dough. That's why we should enjoy "1-2-3-4" and "Nächste Station".

So after we have listened to the beats with undivided attention, we now can check out the lyrics by Textor. And that's just as exciting. His rhymes are like poems, that ask the listener to think along. But at the same time, they don't consider themselves very intellectual. Nevertheless Textor's rhymes have this rewind quality, that we so often still miss in German hip hop. So he rhymes on "I Don't Know What Time It Was": "verdammt, ich ziehe und besetze, Unterdruck und Unternehmer, fordern mehrmals Vergewaltigung von 'Girl von Ipanema'". "1-2-3-4" is the platform for Textor personal battle rhymes: "ich bin ein unschlagbares Team, so wie Satan und die Fischerchöre". And he continues with "egal was gelingt, egal was missglückt, ein Tag ist kein Guter mit Psychopharmaka zum Frühstück". And the 'Free Willie' tale, that you can check out on the track "68", everybody should care to listen to. There hasn't been much, that had as much poetic energy, coming from this middle European state.

Definitely a cool album, that you will have to listen to a few times, until it will open it's complete quality to you. But oftentimes, these albums, one has to grew with, that has to grow on you. These are the albums, you will always so back to, and these are the albums, that will be considered a classic, at one time or another.
