You can either suck on too cold coke to get your brain frozen, or go to the Cryonics institute to get your hole body made into a big old lump of ice, chilling in the refrigerator and waiting until people know how to defreeze you and cure whatever you're suffering from (although it's arguable if stupidity can ever be cured). However, if that's a little too cold for you, you might as well put this album by Krionix from San Antonio Texas in your stereo and get down with the funk. As that's what the two cats cook up: dirty funk, with straight rhyming as the icing. That sounds basic to you? That sounds good to us.
Cause this in spirit takes us a couple of years back, a time travel we will always enjoy to buckle up for. And even if the production of that era and these songs here are rough, rugged and lacking the plushness of polished computer buttons, a "Turn Ya Funktion Out" gets our head bobbing in the slow rhythm of the dirty down south. And as this needs to work in a live setting, the two cats speak directly to the people, asking 'em to throw up what they have at hand. The funk stays gritty on "Artikles" while the words move away from the motivational speaking. Instead some frustrations with all the phony and mediocre wack cats is addressed. They don't want to see any more headlines on unworthy characters, but instead the Big L 'extra, extra' sample should rather introduce their name.

We're kinda kept on going like this for the rest of the album, as we get the mixture of tracks on what the Krionix think (like "The Soulution", that's talking about who you need to be to be able to sleep at night) and tracks on what the Krionix claim (like "High Speed" or "Sounds Dope" where the two go out to brag, over a plucking beat). They do both with a certain basic simplicity, that however holds a lot of charm and quality. It's somewhat like: instead of trying to climb the biggest and most dangerous mountain, and probably failing, they go for a smaller one. But they do reach the summit and they look good up there as well as on the way up and the way down.
That's why they are not even too good to just keep a beat rolling, like "Korporateklipse", that's maybe a little bit slow, but that would make a Showbiz proud. Their production further sounds good on "The Way We Rok", with smooth Rhodes providing the contrast to the harsh boasting spitting. This sample sounds somewhat familiar, as does the one on "Shrpen Ya Skills", but we can't be too mad. And here the hook is catchy too, so in all the Extra Prolific kind of bareness, this is cool. Well, not the last beat on "Natural Resources" though, as that Chinese bing binging, is rather 'eehhh'.
The CD-R universe is very clustered with personal journal, emo hop, philosophical and I'm depressed rambling. While all of that surely deserves to be out there, getting the alternative from Krionix is nevertheless welcomed. Despite their sound not really being too impressive and special, there's still a lot to enjoy on their eleven track album. There's funk, there's the good time that comes with that, there's straight rhyming, that entertains in a clever and hip hop worthy way. And as said: that sounds good to us.
