A little while ago
we gave you a review of the "NW Ridin'" compilation.
And the man that brought us that, is now coming back
as more: Mr. D.O.G., barking outta Tacoma, Washington
State. And for all you geographically challenged, that's
right in the north west, next to Canada. What also tells
you that it's north of the Yay, while south of Seattle.
And musically, it's right there in the middle of the
two too, as to the untrained ear, this release doesn't
really force us to recognize an own style, but we are
putting it right there with all the street, jeep, reality
releases that we got to know from the Bay.
|
|
And that's not only
due to the featured artists on here, that include E-40,
who's opening the album with the "Intro",
but who's also dropping by to spit some guest verses
on "My
Knoccs Go", that also features the Sick
Wit It's The Mossie. And they all are mingling well
on this Bosko produced beat, with especially E and D.O.G.
having eccentric flows, that in the latter case got
him the nickname 'Aquaman'. If we dig for more higher
profile collaborations, then there's another cut with
a Sick Wit It artist, as Suga T spits verses on "Playa's
& Spectatas", a cut that also features Maniac
Lok. And further there's "I
Gets Paper" that features another H20 alias
having emcee, as Ras Kass the waterproof emcee, kicks
one of his sure fire verses, and he says that he want's
'to get doe like take wan'.

|
So these are some of
the names outsiders will recognize too, however, those
a little more familiar with the NW scene, will recognize
Cool Nutz, who drops by on "Piranhas",
"NW Ridin'" and
"Playa Playa" (that
also features Da Have Not and Squeek Nutty Bug). And
speaking of "NW Ridin'",
that's an area represent track, as May Money, Ray Ray,
Maniac Lok and E Dawg are spitting on that cut too.
Further there's Homicyde on "You
Outta Poccet", Keak Da Sneak, Angerman and
Bosko on "Get Off My Line (Remix)"
and Big Oak on "Ghetto
Politics". That's a lot of guest appearances,
but as there's seventeen cuts on this record, we are
still getting seven (including the "Outro")
cuts, that give us un-added on D.O.G.
|
|
And one of his solo
cuts is also featuring one of the nicest beats, as "Perps"
produced by Big Squeeze is keeping the flashy sounds
to a minimum, but actually making this simple in a musical
kind of way. But if you actually want those synthy beats,
"My Knoccs Go",
"You Outta Poccet",
"Get Off My Line (Remix)"
or the "Outro" are
the tracks to check for, as the producers Funkd Daddy,
Big Squeeze, Bosko, Cool Nutz and Johnathan C, know
how to put the sparkling thump beats together. Lyrically
this is giving little surprises, as we get the glamour,
the glitz, or as the title says: ghetto politics, power
moves and pention plans, coupled with the obligatory,
while never to discredit "4
Da Homies" track.
|
|
Hence we get what we
expected to get: some real shit. That does make it any
better or any worse, then again it it's shit meaning
good to some and shit meaning shit to others.
