The true fifth, or sixth
element of hip hop is the crew / posse / family. So
many artists are not only defined by the people they
are surrounded with, it's also their business card,
entry ticket and supporting cast. Or the crew is the
possibility to keep your name out, during times where
you are not very busy to release records under your
own name. Now, the Writers Block are part of the Visionaries
crew, that also includes 2Mex, Rhettmatic, Key Kool
and LMNO. As that is very good company to be associated
with, Lord Zen and Dannu can be assured that they will
have the backing, interest and curiosity of the fan
base from several people, maybe even areas and styles.
And as they are not the busiest folks, this album will
be introducing the twosome to a lot of people.

The title of the album,
and even the artwork is letting you know, that this
album will take you on a journey, with the stops being
twenty in number, and each telling a different story,
full of couleur, odor, and comfort. But what allows
this to have a thorough feel, as well as a feel that's
thoroughly upheld, are the carefully picked beats, that
are all admitting to the same flavor, despite the various
producers. One of 'em is Omid, the cat that used to
call himself OD. He offers a beat for "Sunset
Limited", which appears to be a driving track,
with a guitar that's pushing the train forward, and
that seems to contain sounds that were especially composed
for this cut. Looking for the good time party vibe,
we get "No More No Less",
where DJ Rhettmatic offers a banger. But rightfully
we are let known that "this is not your typical", with
the cats allowing you to complete the sentence yourself,
as they are already offering the next line of the enjoying
to rhyme verse. "Spin The Wax"
is going for the blatantly bouncy, but instead of combining
this with regular braggadocios verses, we are getting
these often enough present Block lyrics, where you need
to listen to the whole verse to fully get what they
are pointing at.

This album however is
not only about getting one's groove on, and celebrating
the good times. So for example "Road
To Monte Carlo" is having the thoughtfulness
go beyond the mere hip hop commentary, with it also
discussing the inner determination. This cut was produced
by Key Kool, who then offers one of the best beats on
"Avenue Of Hope",
that's one of those brilliant night time pieces, that
is utilized by Dannu and Zen to further their sing songy
flow, while speaking like gurus, using beautiful descriptions
to bring across the message.

Looking for the stops
where we can't wait for the train to leave the station
again, there's "Apples N' Oranges",
where not only the Mum's The Word beat is giving us
a hard time to enjoy this, the hook is just too similar
to what could have been on the Visionaries album "Sophomore
Jinx". And it's again Mum's The Word's beat on "Long
Riders" that gives us a hard time to fully
get with it. The beat on "Cyclist
12 & 13" wasn't his responsibility, but Nucleus'es.
This could have worked for someone else, but the hard
ghostly feel is mainly unfitting. Showing how to fit
the Block with something more unexpected in a good way
is "Situations",
where Omid is putting together something haunted and
hunted to good results.

There are very few guests
on here, and the ones that are, are Visionaries crew,
so they are guests with an open invitation. Key Kool
drops by on "Truth Serum",
that has the cats switch their flows, as they are talking
in a low voice, and they tone down the hopping and jumping
style that is usually part of the trademark flow of
Zen and Dannu. The other cut that has guests spit is
the bonus cut "Visionaries
Too (Next Stop)", with it being very obvious
who's going to be on here. The beat by Rhettmatic is
one of the best on this album, and it allows all cats
to come out dope, making this track one of the best
posse cuts we've heard in a minute. Now, maybe we should
also call ICD of Blak Forest a guest. He doesn't talk
on "D.O.S.", but
he offers a dope, with a little melancholy mixed in,
beat.

|
You need to let this
album grow on you a little bit, meaning that not only
the quick flow by Dannu and Zen make it necessary that
you dig deeper into the cuts. Cause if you do, this
trip going full circle, appears to be a home run.
