| When talking about cities that should get more attention, then Chicago is very high on the list. Because considering the output of the Chi Town, it receives much less love than its releases would suggest. Verbal Kent is also a Chi artist. And with The Opus and One Man Army, he's got
two well known artists on his side, to help him out. Even though, the man does not need that much help. |
| Because on "Combat", the collaboration with One Man Army, Verbal Kent is easily able to hang with the Binary Star man. He kicks rhymes that are as hefty as the ones by the well respected other emcee. With the total of the two and the hard, string enhanced and good
beat, resulting in the banger of this offering. The solo cuts "Alien Rock" and "The Remix" are not lagging that much behind, but "Combat" still tramples 'em down. |
| And that despite The Opus producing "Alien Rock". There's even a long intro to truly create the mood for the song. But that's exactly the problem: The Opus creates excellent mood music. But this beat sounds like it's partially completed. Or exists as a completed version
somewhere, and some elements and layers of that version were taken away in order to make room for the rhyming. What can't be said about Kaz 1's beat on "The Remix", which is just in general not our favorite. And the fierce braggadocio rhyming can't completely turn the impression around.
But it can also not stop us from looking forward to Kent's "WhatBox" album, as this guy is a rapper to be reckoned with. |
